Latin Club Senate Meeting Minutes
October 22, 2008
Called to order by at 3:35 PM by Aisha
- Jennifer is inaugurated as other consul by Aisha
- Austine will be inaugurated the next day
- Consuls go over officer’s duties (the officers that are present):
- Alexandra (praetrix peregrina): publicity
- Heta and Anna (aediles): service and spirit
- In the bylaws: the duty of service should be added, the duty of managing website and organizing fundraiser should be removed
- Webmasters will manage website
- Treasurer will organize fundraiser
- Elizabeth (quaestor pecuniarum): fundraising
- Jacob (quaestor elector): will begin training for website soon
- Tribune position should only be offered to freshmen in Latin I
- Aisha and Elizabeth will visit school business manager and vice principal
- They will find out how much money is in the Latin Club budget
- They will then find out the procedure for starting a fundraiser
- Mr. Tylinski will be reimbursed for the $168 charge on his credit card from the Latin Club account
- Ideas for fundraising:
- Candy, chips, pop sell best
- Possibility of hot cocoa
- Will think of more ideas
- Austine and Jacob will write a new amendment and bylaws
- Amendment needed to describe the procedure that will be taken in case there is a tie for a Latin Board position
- Toga Treating
- Will be offered for Oct 30, Oct 31, and Nov 1
- The two days that have the most attendance will be the days for toga treating
- Anna and Heta will put up lists in 204, Mr. Tylinski will pass these around during Latin periods
- Aisha will send out an email
- Website:
- Possibility of starting a “student section” on the website
- Alexandra and Jacob will be in charge
- IJCL prep days, fun day, and mock day
- Prep days: days to memorize and practice oratories, and days to create artwork
- Sometime in December/ January
- Oratory prep days in February
- Fun day: will take place at Northside in case not too many freshman attend Fall Festivus
- Purpose: to gain freshman interest in IJCL
- Will take place before IJCL packets are due
- Mock day: will be a day of judging oratories, artwork, etc. as well as taking practice tests
- Will take place in February
- We need someone to lead scrapbook
- Scrapbook will be either digital or traditional
- If no one is interested, we will not have a scrapbook
- There will be a scrapbook committee
- T-shirt:
- We don’t have Harold!
- Jacob might come up with t-shirt
- There will be a t-shirt contest
- Latin Club may have its own hoodie, if there is enough interest
