April 16, 2010

Meeting called to order at 3:29 by Mary Mussman, seconded by David Jaffe

Date: 101 days until NJCL  2010 (thanks Martina)

In attendance: Mary, Tim, Anne, Jayce, David, Rachel, Martina, Alexandra, Mr. Tylinski?!?!

Not here: Danny

We want to talk about NJCL to freshmen/maybe sophomores (Martina, David Jaffe will talk to latin 1, jay cepeiger and david will talk to their class)

  • Rachel is trying to work things out for a myth-related(?) service project at Murlow Library (possibly Budlong or Lincoln Belmont or Albany [on Foster]) (Martina has connections yo)
  • Probably reading/telling stories of various myths
    • Not Oedipus
    • Psyche
    • Atalanta
    • (not?) Io and Jupiter
    • Argonauts
  • Take regular story time and subtly convert it to supercool MYTH story time
  • Rachel will try to pick threeish dates that we might try to do

BUCEPHALUS

  • Evan says it is done and Mr. T has looked at it
  • Beyond Nugae  - Evan has photos ready now, will send them to Alexandra to put online
  • Evan wants to videotape oratories at Latin Olympics (whose leaders have approved such a thing) to post online for educational/instructional use
  • Shall we pay to have Bucephalus printed professionally for Northside? Each copy is like $25, we need one for nationals, so that would be fifty big ones times two for two issues EQUALS 100 (I double checked my math)
  • OR -- It would be cheaper to get a plastic binder dealie for school and only get the uber professional one for NJCL
    • this will look pretty much just as good btw
    • we think njcl is looking more at writing than colorful eye candy
  • VOTE:  unanimous vote to bind Bucephalus on a medium option – not reeeeally professional, but not just stapled together and written with crayon

Jayce left at 3:45 ….. what a slacker

We want to make a binder or something organizationaltastic to compile everything Mr. T has done with us this year – prepping for competish, projects we have done , etc (but not quizzes and in-class stuff) for the mysterious new teacher, heretofore referred to as Mr. X

  • It should be friendly, like the hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy, and say welcome to northside, Mr. X!
  • It should stress club activities like certamen, service, rather than: DO THIS NOW!!!!!!!!
  • We may ask for practice tests and stuff but we don’t want to tell him to do it in class
  • At the end, it will have a list of beloved Tylinski-isms

- Mr. Tylinski – do not read the following – I will let you know when you can start again –

      Thanks!

GOODBYE PARTY/GIFT for Mr. T

  • May 28th? We could have an end of year latin party and afterwords have cake or something and give him our heartfelt thanks, plus some kind of gift…
    • Car?
    • Trip to rome?
    • Scrapbook where every Latin member/board member/or something like that to say thanks? Not everyone has to do it but those who want to write letters or something would be welcomed to do so…
      • This last one sounds good, but a trip to Rome… just kidding J
      • If possible it should include famous alumni persons of interest like: Michael Pomeranz, Mark Spreitzer, Smokey Rivers
    • Books? Apparently he likes Catcher in the Rye and/or Grapes of Wrath

AMENDMENTS

Aedile picks who webmaster is for some reason – this should be changed (we think) – we want to vote on removing it from Constitution

Mandatory bucephalus articles for board members

  • Quaestor scriptorium must do at least one bucephalus
  • Every board member must write at least one article for the bucephalus during the year, else subject to board consideration of impeachment (I prefer the threat of cutting off fingers but maybe in a couple years…)

Open Forum for board positions? Purpose: Jeffrey wants to win, also publicity and stuff like that

      - General feeling is that his shouldn’t be in constitution, but it could happen at latin club or possibly tribunes at least could stand up in class and give a speech to their freshmen minions

      - we think this should certainly not be mandatory, for candidates or voters

      - we will not vote on this one this year, but possibly in the future

Each class needs to vote on these three (webmaster/bucehpalusx2) amendments (Tim will conduct vote in Latin 1 and upper first class next week, DJ will conduct vote in Latin 2)

Anne left at 4:00

Rachel tentatively moves to close the meeting at 4:11 pm

Rachel definitively moves to close the meeting later at 4:11 pm

Mary says one of the consuls has to move to close the meeting, sorry Rachel L

Alexandra had already moved to close the meeting “a long time ago”

Evan seconded alllll those motions both legitimate and otherwise at 4:12 I guess

ANARCHY.

BTW Mr. T left a long time ago but he is back now… just so you’re all aware.
